The future of the internet lies on the decisions contrived on December 14 by the FCC, Federal Communications Commission. The Federal Communications Commission will be choosing on the 14th on whether or not to repeal net neutrality. Net neutrality is the whole principle that internet providers must treat all the data and the websites the same. This prevents major providers from blocking or slowing down speeds for certain sites.

If Net Neutrality is repealed big broadband providers like Comcast and Charter, or wireless providers like Sprint and Verizon could slow video streaming sites way down, so the customer ends up buying their cable plan. They could even block the consumer from using Snapchat just so they use their phone service to contact friends and family.

This also affects the business world a ton. Without the equal playing field that is here now smaller businesses will never make it off the ground if the deals with bigger internet providers are much needed to make it. The CEO and co-founder of Discord, a video game chat and video conferencing app, Jason Citron said, “Net neutrality is incredibly important for all small startups like Discord because all internet internet traffic needs to be treated as equal for us to all have access to the same resources as the big companies.”
