The Abilene Cowboys basketball team took on Clay Center at home on January 15, 2018, and earned their fifth win. The win kept the Cowboys aloft in the NCKL rankings. The Cowboys hit hard and early, scoring 19 points in the first quarter and never scoring any less than 13 points a quarter for the rest of the game. Starters Noah Wildman and Tucker Robinson, seniors, scored 17 and 16 points, respectively. Wildman shot 53% from the floor with three rebounds and two steals, while Robinson shot 80% from the floor and grabbed 16 of the team’s 32 rebounds. Next in scoring was junior James Mayden, with nine points and four rebounds in his second career start. In the fourth quarter, head coach Terry Taylor took out his main starters and role players and put in junior backups Bret Ambrosier, Colton McVan, and Wyatt Davis, as well as junior role player Tim Barbieri and freshman Josh Stuber. The five closed out the game, only allowing 18 points on defense and scoring 11 of their own to preserve Abilene’s lead and win by 14. The Cowboys next look to take on the SIT in Salina, where they are seeded fourth and will do battle with the Andover Trojans.
