Nine students from Abilene High School traveled to Wichita to attend the Kansas Thespians Festival. The festival took place at the Hyatt Regency and the Century ll Performing Arts and Convention Center. This year’s festival was three days long and more than 1800 high school theatre students were in attendance. Students could choose from 200 workshops and sessions taught by college professors. Carly Graefe, Ivy Tompkins, and Harlie Delay took third in a late night contest called “Creative Costumes.” This was a competition where the students had to choose a random bag of materials (bubble wrap, construction paper, trash bags, ribbon, etc.) and come up with a costume design. The competitors had twenty minutes to create a costume to fit the theme of “be your own hero.” The festival was for anyone who was looking to improve their theater skills or was simply looking for new ideas. The drama department is eager to improve after attending the festival.
