On Wednesday, January 31, a select few of the FFA members traveled to Manhattan to compete in the Career Development Events.

The results were impressive. In poultry, the members had to take a test and then judge a series of live birds, eggs, and further processed products. Josiah Schwarz earned first, Riley Volkman got third, Will Stroda got 14th, Brittney Ebersole got 16th, and the senior team placed second overall in Poultry.

The senior team consisted of Brittney Ebersol, Josiah Schwarz, Robin Schlesner, Will Stroda, Jamie Young, and Riley Volkman. Brittney Ebersole was the only senior. Josiah, Robin, and Riley are all juniors, Will and Jamie are both sophomores.

In Milk Quality, Riley Volkman got 14th and the senior team placed fifth overall. For Milk Quality, they had to take a test and then judge the quality and fat percentages of a series of milk and cheese samples.

FFA Secretary, Riley Volkman says, “These Career Development Events provided us with a great opportunity to explore and learn about all the different fields of agriculture, and we had a lot of fun doing it as a team.”
