On Thursday, May 10, the Abilene High School band held their annual banquet to celebrate another successful school year and to announce the newest edition to the drum major trio. At the banquet, the band students were recognized for all of their hard work and dedication to the program.

Senior, Emma Bathurst, was a drum major for three years. Her favorite memory was the band trip to Chicago for the McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.“Chicago was an amazing experience and I loved marching in the parade and building relationships with band members.” It was a moment that she will never forget. Emma will miss Friday night football games and performing during the halftime show.

Junior drum major, Emily Burt, will miss playing with the seniors. When asked what she will most she said, “Being able to see everyone every day!” Next year, Emily will be the head drum major accompanied by Josh Young and Claire Weishaar.

Claire is excited to work with the upperclassmen. She knows that they will be great mentors for her over the next few years. Claire chose to audition so that she can take a position of leadership in the band program. “I strongly believe that when participating in an activity, it is good to go all in.” She believes that she is ready for this opportunity; that her faith in God has helped her to grow in confidence.

The band is excited and hopeful for the upcoming school year. They will miss the seniors very much, but the future is bright!
