Cowgirls Outlast Orioles in OT
The Abilene Cowgirls traveled to Augusta, Kansas on December 7. They came into the game 2-0 after a win against Rock Creek. Throughout the first half, it was a defensive battle. The Orioles had the height in the matchup but, the Cowgirls made some adjustments to the lineup. Seniors Hannah Willey and Sydney Burton lead the young Cowgirl team to control of the game with defense. In the second quarter of the game, there Cowgirl defense only allowed the Orioles to score one point. They caused the Orioles to commit 6 personal fouls. In the second half, Augusta finally started chipping away at the lead and took it, 36-38. Abilene forced Augusta to 12 steals and 19 turnovers.
The Cowgirls shot outstanding as a team at the free throw line The final score in overtime was 45-43. When asked “How do you feel your team performed as a unit against Augusta?” Senior Hannah Willey responded with “I felt like everyone worked together to get the job done. Everyone ws feeding off of each others energy. It was a great team win.” On Friday night, December 14, the Cowboys and Cowgirls will travel to Concordia, Kansas to take on the Panthers for an important NCKL matchup.
