The AHS activity fair serves as a brisk reminder of the approaching fall, just like the sweet scent of a steaming pumpkin spice latte or the salty, crunchy taste of a pumpkin seed. Yet, the activity fair represents more than just the arrival of fall. It is a reminder of the importance of setting goals and putting yourself out there into the school community. Both new and returning students walk around the fair assessing what they will choose to do for the next nine months and beyond.
“For the experience and to meet new people,” freshman Sean Melleny said when explaining his reasons for choosing the activities he did.
“Just be a top sigma,” senior Gage Taylor said about his goals.
Others specified goals involving sports.
“(I want) to make it to state,” freshman Jade Wilson said about Cross Country.
“400 squat,” sophomore Mato Benoist exclaimed when asked about his goals in powerlifting.
Goal setting isn’t limited to students; many teachers and coaches also use the activity fair as a springboard for their own plans for success.
“FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) has a goal to get out into the community more,” Culinary teacher and advisor of FCCLA, Mr. Krenzin said.
“We want to host a playoff game at the end of the year
,” Coach Nicks explained.
The goal setting and forward planning that comes with the activity fair is exactly what AHS stands for. Striving for greatness always starts with those simple things. All this coming together proves to be a great launching point for the school year, and a great reminder that fall is coming, just like pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin seeds.
