In an intense scrimmage, the AHS Football team laid the foundation for an exciting 2024-25 season. Last Saturday at 9 a.m., the players were split into two teams for a competitive matchup.
“A scrimmage is a practice game, where they try to match up skills equally on both sides,” Sophomore Gabe Engle describes.
“It helps coaches figure out where you are going to start, if you’re going to start, and where you’re going to play,” sophomore Kelly said.
Given that the primary aim of the scrimmage was to determine roster spots for the season, the players gave it their all on the field.
“We are out here fighting for spots, we are not trying to hurt anyone, but we are definitely fighting. Everyone is going 100% to earn a one,” Joseph Welsh said.
Some players mentioned that they enjoyed having the opportunity to practice and improve their skills, even if they are not chosen to start. While spots are a major focus, players also pursue goals like im
proving their abilities and refining teamwork, which remain important even when starting positions are at the forefront of their minds.
“We are trying to win 4 of the 6 NCKL games, get a home playoff game, and win that too,” senior Weston Rock said.
After an exciting showcase of skill and commitment at the scrimmage, the ultimate goal for the Cowboys is clear: tobetter themselves, their team, and to have an amazing season.
