Whether it’s a JBL speaker during weights class, a radio on a late-night drive with your friends, or even an AHS jazz concert, music is all around AHS and shapes who the students are. Abilene students know how to use the power of music to express themselves in different ways.
“[At AHS] music is a key part of everyone’s life,” sophomore Trenton Huhman said.
Performing arts such as Jazz Band or the school musicals are examples of how students find ways to use the power of music to their advantage.
“[Without performing] I feel like I wouldn’t have anything to strive for because you can always get better,” sophomore band member Gabe Engle said.
Performing isn’t the only way AHS students express themselves through music, however. Huhman finds that listening to music has the same effect as performing on his expression of self.
“Listening to music with certain themes can boost you or help you cope with the emotions you’re feeling,” Huhman said.
The positive results of students interacting with music can be seen in many ways.
“With choir being a big part of my life, I’ve seen many students come out of their shell and be able to be more interactive,” junior Jaxyn Summers said. “[Music] has definitely shaped my life.” Summers said.
Music is everywhere at AHS, and it leads to great expression of self and a positive impact on its students. No matter how students choose to express themselves through the power of music, this fact remains true.
