Bigger labs, brand new equipment, and changing environments— the third floor summer renovations brought a new edge to every science class. After a need for advanced science equipment, the idea was finally approved for the building of a new science floor to better suit teachers, labs, and student learning.
Many students love the new floor.
“I feel like there’s more room within the classroom. There’s definitely a lot of space,” senior LizzieBrooks said.
The new improvements aid in making the science floor much safer for both students and teachers. Every room has newly installed sinks and eyewash stations. The chemistry lab finally installed an updated fume hood, acid-wash stations, and windows— Mr. Sheahon’s personal favorite.
“I love that the lab is now in the classroom. It’s very open and the students can use the lab whenever they want. It’s a lot more accessible and functional,” Mr. Sheahon said.
The renovations open up many opportunities including athletic training with Mr. Sheahon and more training possibilities with Mrs. Shultze in her health science room. Students are excited for the new chances for learning and labs the new rooms have given them.
“It feels very fancy. I’m really excited and they look like a lot of fun,” freshman Elliot Engle said.
While the restorations of the science floor have created a much better learning environment and ability to teach, saying goodbye to the old classrooms was not as easy for some.
“Over the years, I had students who painted a wall in my old classroom. They filled it with inspirational quotes. I love things like that and I really miss that. Those have meaning to me,” Mrs. Burton said.
So many new advantages come with modernizing and restoring the third floor science rooms. Better and more advanced lab equipment helps students and teachers stay safe during labs and learn or teach in a stronger manner. The changes are extremely beneficial to everyone for a safe and enjoyable year of science.
