The Abilene choir’s Fall Fantastical happened on Tuesday, October 21. Many students, faculty, and family members came out to support the groups of performers including: the AHS Singers, concert choir, and the AMS choir.
Much preparation was put into the event to make it perfect for the audience. Tickets were sold in advance by Singers members to fund-raise for their upcoming trip to New York.
“Everybody put in a lot of time and energy outside of class to do the individual acts. We didn’t practice any of those in class. They all worked on those on their own,” director Danette Whiteley said. “…Of course, all of the in-class we have been working on for the bulk of the nine weeks. They have put in a lot of time, effort and energy to learn the choreography.”
“I really enjoyed it and loved watching the individual acts because it showcased their individual talents. I also loved Sagen [Immel] and Sophia [Weltha’s] one-liners before the performances,” senior Jennifer Needham said.
Members of the choir enjoyed watching all the other performances. Some crowd favorites were seniors Sagen Immel and Anna Richardson’s duet to “A Lovely Night” from La La Land and senior Morgan Saenz and junior Alyssa Schmidt’s duet to “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”
The singers and choir groups are filled with many upperclassmen that are filled with excitement and sadness for their last first show of the year.
“As a senior, at the concert, I made sure to let all my friends know that this was my last Fall Fantastical. They all started crying…” senior Jaxyn Summers said. “It’s a little sad because it just marks the first chapter of the end of my senior year.”
Still, the performers are happy with how the show turned out and the support from the community.
“I am very proud of how it turned out and I’m so happy that so many people came and saw it. It helps us out in the long run: being able to go to New York and giving back to our music department,” Weltha said.
