The Abilene Cowboys and Cowgirls start competing in the annual Salina Invitational Tournament (SIT) today, January 22nd, at Salina Central High School and Salina South High School respectively. Both teams face impressive competition; the boys start off against two-seed Buhler, and the girls play three-seed Wichita East. Both Abilene teams are seeded lower than their opponent and hope to get back on the right track after a rough stretch in early January.

The last few practices for the girls have been opponent-focused, trying to simulate what it would be like to play against the Blue Aces.
“We’ve been doing a lot of press-breaking stuff, a lot of scrimmaging, and having the coaches go against us in practice–Perkins has been dribbling against us,” sophomore Tessa Herrman said.
Both teams’ hard work and coach-scrimmaging come to a culmination tonight. Cowboys play tonight at 4:30, and the cowgirls are at 3:00; Salina Central and Salina South gyms respectively.
