As students think about life after high school, many are already taking steps to prepare for their futures. Through career-based clubs like HOSA and personal commitments to physical fitness, students are gaining real-world experience, exploring career paths, and building healthy habits that will last beyond graduation.
Senior Magda Meneley is one student turning her interests into future goals. What started as a simple decision to get healthier has grown into a possible career path.
“My fitness journey started back in my early high school years,” Meneley said. “I decided to start working out to get healthier, and I also thought that it would help my mental health.”
Her dedication to fitness didn’t just improve her physical and mental well-being; it opened doors professionally. Through her school workplace experience, Meneley worked at Imp
act Sports and Fitness, where she shadowed personal trainers.
“After seeing people impact others’ lives through fitness, it made
me want to get my CPT, my personal trainer’s license,” she said.
School programs and classes have also played a major role in shaping her future. Meneley took weights class for two years and became involved in HOSA, a club that helps students explore careers in the health field.
“I competed in an event called Healthy Living,” Meneley said. “I competed internationally last summer so, I had to think about my healthy lifestyle, how I can maintain that, and how I can keep it going over a certain period of time.”
For Meneley, fitness is a foundation for her future, and she believes other students can benefit, too.
“I think working out is a good outlet for stress, and it’s encouraging to
be assured that you’re working on your best self,” Meneley said.
