On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, parents received a frightening email about someone threatening another student. What made the situation even scarier was that the threats eventually turned toward the entire school.
Regarding the threats, students reached out to their parents via SportsYou to let them know what was going on.
“My mom was going to work, but my dad was home, so he came to the school I didn’t talk to him about it, but he drove around to see if there were cops here,” said senior Sloan McCollough.
Smith later announced that the threats were supposedly just a joke made by one student toward another. Smith explained that the situation had been blown out of proportion and was simply a rumor that had spread throughout the school.
“The notion of a threat came our way; it was already connected to an event that we had handled a week before, and there’s extra context to it that I’m unable to share, that helped me know it wasn’t truly a threat,” principal Dr. Smith said.
The Abilene Police Department investigated the threats to make sure students and staff were safe. They investigated what happened and worked to figure out if the threats were serious. Their main goal was to make sure there was no danger to anyone at school.
“All the schools are locked all the time. Law enforcement, specifically, does daily walk through all the schools. Officers routinely go through school zones and parking lots and just see if they observe anything,” said School Resource Officer Kobiskie.
High school students admitted that the threats scared them and made them worry about their safety. Some students were unsure what to believe as the news spread throughout the school.
“I don’t know what to believe, because I didn’t hear from him, I just heard from other people. But I was scared,” senior Addison Webb said.
