The Abilene Cowgirls had an exciting season opener on Thursday, August 30th as they snatched career win #700 for head coach Mike Jantz. The Cowgirls went 2-1 on the night, defeating Smokey Valley and TMP, but falling short to Concordia.

When asked what #700 wins means to him, coach Jantz said, “It means I have been coaching for a long time! It’s fun and exciting but now I just want to get ready for the next ones.” Senior leadership from both hitter Hannah Willey and libero Turner Alderson was prevalent and necessary during adverse stretches of action. There are many new faces making an impact in varsity action for the Cowgirls: McKenna McGivney (junior), Autumn Fitzgeralds (sophomore), Emma Wildman (freshman), and Jenna Hayes (freshman).

When asked about individual and team performances, Alderson stated, “Individually, I struggled with serve receive but had quite a few digs. As a team, I thought we played well for our first night of games. We have a lot to work on to compete with Marysville next week and try to get ahead in league standings.”

The Cowgirls travel to Marysville on Tuesday, September 4th to face a tough Lady Bulldogs squad.
