Senior Dakotah Whiteley Wrestles For Position In Scrimmage

The Abilene Cowboys traveled to Wamego on Thursday, November 29th to face the Red Raiders in a league duel in which the Cowboys won 60-18.  The varsity team collected wins by pin from seniors Braydon Surritte (152), Austin Wuthnow (160), Dakotah Whiteley (182), juniors Will Stroda (120) and Adam Henely (285), sophomore Karsen Loader (195), and freshman Kaleb Stroda (106).  Sophomore Skyleigh Pflaster (113), junior Luke Hager (170), and junior Brandon Parker (220) all gathered wins by forfeit.

The Cowboys have gotten off to a great start to the league race with a huge victory and proven that they will again contend for the NCKL title after winning last year.  Abilene will enjoy returning state placers in W. Stroda and Whiteley.  The Cowboys have a new addition to the coaching staff in Darren Whiteley, and look to develop their younger prospects to create depth this year.

The Cowboys are looking to improve each week, as Wuthnow stated, “I feel like we competed well against Wamego on Thursday, but we have a lot to work on.  I’m excited to see what we can do this year.”

Abilene will return to the mats on Saturday, December 8th at a tournament in Manhattan with a field of great competition.
